IRS Announces Low Income Taxpayer Clinic Grant Recipients

The Internal Revenue Service announced more than $10.72 million in matching grants for the development, expansion, or continuation of 129 Low Income Taxpayer Clinics (LITCs) for the 2016 grant year.

The IRS plans to award additional part-year matching grants pursuant to a supplemental application period open to qualifying organizations in certain identified underserved areas. Clinics selected under this special announcement need to start operating in July 2015.

The Low Income Taxpayer Clinic program is administered by the Taxpayer Advocate Service. LITCs represent low income individuals in disputes with the IRS, including audits, appeals, collection matters, and litigation. Some also provide education about taxpayer rights and responsibilities to low income taxpayers and those who speak English as a second language (ESL).
