Taxpayer Advocate Speaks on Taxes and Transparency

NTA Blog logo no background

Last week the National Taxpayer Advocate participated in a panel discussion sponsored by Tax Analysts called Tax Transparency: The Good, The Bad, and The Future. She was joined on the panel by Drita Tonuzi, IRS Associate Chief Counsel, and Christopher Rizek, Member and General Counsel, Caplin & Drysdale.

Each member of the panel acted as a representative of a particular viewpoint –Tonuzi speaking as the IRS, Rizek speaking for practitioners, and Olson representing the taxpayer. They discussed the tension between transparency and confidentiality, particularly as it relates to the IRS, the ever-increasing workload facing the agency, the decline of its budget, and the recent controversies it has faced.

Video and transcripts of the full session are available from Tax Analysts.
